NRT: with regards to #4, what album among any artists’ fans is NOT going to be accompanied by deafening hype between themselves? Is that not what fans do, chatter away between themselves about upcoming albums? If they were all fearing the next album, they wouldn’t be much fans, would they? I still think it’s a pretty decent album, regardless of having a few dull tracks. Skip “Most Toys” and “Last Century” and substitute b-sides “Say The Word” and “Circular Ride” and you have a much stronger listen. It was still far from “rubbish” even with the original songs left in – just a let down after Marbles.

“Landfill indie.” I like that, must find a use for that in a sentence today.

Perhaps I should have made it clear that this post is supposed to be extremely tongue-in-cheek. It’s already been pointed out on the #Freaks IRC channel that two of the ten are factually incorrect (and I won’t say which two)

1. No problem with lists. Ranked lists, on the other hand.... 2. "Marillion have made more that two good albums" – One of Oasis' is exceptional, though. 3. "Marillion have five creative band members, and have kept the same lineup for 19 years" – true, but I don't see that as a reason why Band A is 'better' than Band B. I'd be perfectly happy with a hypothetical band featuring an inspired individual and an endless succession of session musicians – I don't agree that continuity and collaboration are automatically better. 4. Marillion have never released an album accompanied by deafening hype, which then turned out to be complete rubbish. – Oh yes they have! 'Somewhere Else' was thoroughly hyped within the fan comunity, and was subsequently... disappointing. 5. Which still leaves plenty of reasons why I agree with you.

good list, although “Marillion didn’t enable Alan Mcgee to spout absolute garbage in the media and be taken seriously” should be in there.
