What If?

I wonder what the internet would have looked like had micropayments for content been the default model rather than advertising? Had that happened, then I bet spam would have been far less of a problem.

Doesn’t this rather depend on who is paying who for what?

If it were possible to bill someone for looking at your website simply because they have landed on it, then spam would be even worse than it is now and it would be full of links.

If it were possible to bill someone for sending you an email, there would be no spam.
But how much email would there be?

There would still be problems, but I do wonder if spam would be less of an issue if we’d followed a BBC rather than an ITV model.
