#9 is "Bald" by The Darkness. Doubtkless others will come to me.

Sure enough - #3 is "21st Century Schizoid Man" by King Crimson. I had it in my head that it was Black Sabbath, which fooled me for a few minutes.

There are several more classic 70s prog-rock songs in there (precisely how many depends on where you draw the line between prog and heavy metal)

11 must be Mother by the Floyd and 10 looks like it could be Hungarian. 17 Train, Train? Or is that just the chorus - UFO

Posted by: Chris on August 21, 2006 08:59 PM

11: Wrong! It's not the Floyd
10: The language isn't Hungarian.
17: You've got the song, but that's the chorus, not the title :)

If it's not Humgarian, is it Finnish - Nightwish? Lordi?

Posted by: Chris on August 23, 2006 06:55 PM

Ha! I can tell that you know something about linguistics. It's all the ümläüts in it that's a dead giveway.

You've named two bands that appear in the 20 :)

#15 is Astronomy by Blue yster Cult

Posted by: Murray on August 24, 2006 06:39 PM

It is indeed. More Ümläüts...

As always, I can do the 'showing your age' section...

1: Genesis - Harold The Barrel

5: Spock's Beard - Surfing Down The Avalanche

12: Whitesnake - Queen of Hearts

13: Uriah Heep - Salisbury

14: Van Der Graaf Generator - The Emperor In His War Room

16: Burn - Deep Purple

I'll have to find something by Ash Burton and the 14XXs...

The album "Northwinds" containing "Queen of Hearts" wasn't released under the Whitesname name, but as a David Coverdale solo album. Several members of what was to become Whitesnake played on it, though.

Good point, I guess that's what happens when I do things from memory :-)

'Northwinds' is easily my favourite unPurple Coverdale, closely followed by the 'Whitesnake' album. Although I frequently enjoyed them live once everything became Whitesnake The Band, I felt the albums lacked a little subtlety ;-)

I think I agree with you there. Both Whitesnakes (the British blues-metal one and the American hair-metal version) were a bit one-dimensional.

Northwinds is far more varied. Pity it's become an obscure rarity; I'm not sure it's even in print any more (though I do have it on CD).

18 is "Hunting Song" by Railroad Earth on ELKO. Sorry I missed that. :)

Posted by: Scott on August 28, 2006 02:34 PM

Somehow I thought you'd guess that one, Scott.
