With enemies like these

Nice to see the party I voted for get so completely up the nose of Samizdata.net's David Carr:

No, sorry I cannot find anything charitable to say about them at all. This creepy collection of local government officers, geography teachers and assorted smelly cranks combine the hungry opportunism of a trap-door spider with the prim, bossy condescension of an Edwardian school ma'am, only without the good looks of the former or the moral fibre of the latter.

When a party makes mortal enemies of the people who want to return to nineteenth-century robber-baron capitalism accompanied by heavily-armed armed vigilantes, they must be doing something right!

To have 'robber baron' capitalism you have to have a political system make some people legally untouchable and which raises barriers to competition by new market entrants... so if you think we support the idea of crony capitalism, then you must have mistaken us for some other folks. If you are going to be critical of us, please make sure you know what we really want.

And to suggest we like the idea of vigilantes(i.e. so called vigilance committees who administer summary punishments) when we really only want people to have the right to defend themselves from attack, then I can only assume you have not taken the time to read what we really advocate. In reality what we want is really not wildly radical.

And by the way... what does "heavily armed" mean? Bazookas? Tanks? Artillery? I think you will find we are quite prepared to settled for lightly armed with just a measly 9mm handgun.

Don't you guys use the word "heavily armed" in the byline of your own blog :)

Actually we were quoting a comment similar to the one you made from our early days of blogging... kind of an in-joke I suppose.

That said, if you had seen the gun collection of one of our US contributors, 50 cal sniper rifles probably does qualify as 'heavily armed'.
