Every Train Driver's Nightmare

From JS Online News.

A woman holding her baby daughter leaped in front of a commuter train Wednesday and was killed, but the 6-month-old girl survived, officials said.

The sole witness, the train's engineer, said the woman jumped from the platform in front of the locomotive as it was stopping at the station about 25 miles northwest of New York City

The baby was pulled from beneath the train by a crew member of a second train that arrived from the opposite direction several minutes later.

While I recognise would-be suicides have serious mental health problems, surely it's an utterly selfish act to throw oneself under a train?

My heart goes out to the poor train driver, who's the real victim here. Some drivers are so mentally scarred by suicides jumping under trains they're never able to work again.

I can't imagine what goes on inside the mind of a would-be suicide, but I doubt any of them think of the effects on those that have to deal with the consequences.
