Virgin Trains and Tunnels

Commenter Temple Stark finds it amusing that Britain has a train company called Virgin Trains, and asks if there are any pictures of them pounding hard into tunnels? Well, you asked....

It's actually leaving the tunnel rather than entering it. The location is Horse Cove tunnel, Dawlish, in July 6th 2004. More pictures on that day on my Fotopic site.

Somehow ... a disappointment. :-)

I will claim some attachment to the freight trains that roll through my area, just parallel to the main road. About 40 or 50 a day.

What did you expect? Even if it had a steam loco on the front all you would have been able to see would be the tail end.

The whole "Virgin" brand tends to generate jokes along the way you were probably thinking. The first "Virgin" product that Branson put out was a record lable and the first joke of that type I heard was asking if their records had holes.

Of course in this post-vinyl erea, how many readers of this site have seen a 45rpm single?

So far there isn't a Pendolino called "Virgin on the Ridiculous", although some of the names they have used are pretty silly.
