Elric! The Movie?

Following the runaway success of Peter Jackson's adaptation of "Lord of the Rings", filmakers are turning their attention to other classic fantasy works. One such work is Michael Moorcock's anti-heroic dark fantasy saga Elric of Melnibone. So who's going to do the soundtrack? Will it be Blue Öyster Cult, or will it be Hawkwind? I so agree with the duration times of the movies Hawk. And if they really would like a title track to the movies, might I suggest "the prophet song" by Queen. If you have never heard it before please give a listen, the content of the song and the story of Elric intertwine. I have been waiting for such a day as this to come, the day when Elric and Stormbringer would be one the silver screen. It's been too long in the making, but to tell you the truth now is the best time to do it. Thanks for hearing my ramblings, and for your time.

Theres no doubt in my mind that HAWKWIND should do the score!!!! Jeremy Irons would make a good Elric, after all he's already played him in The Time Machine!! Chistopher Lee for Arioch!!!

I think elric needs to be played by somebody between 25 and 30 if you'll remember he is still a young king when the book starts. My vote would go for an oreintal actor (don't know any names) because of the physiometry (sp?) of Melnabonians : almond shaped eyes in particular.

I think Jude Law would make a great Elric. This movie will be awesome if it's done right. I just hope they don't go for PG-13, that would ruin it. Also, Stormbringer has to be done right. That won't be easy. How do you convey to the audience that stormbringer is sentient and kind of has a mind of its own? And how do you show Elric getting vitality from it as it drinks souls? It'll be hard to do that right on screen. There's so much conveyed in the books that isn't easy to visualize. I'm glad someone in hollywood is up to the challenge of making this movie.

Hawkwind would be great for the soundtrack , maybe even Monstermagnet could get in on the act.I really can't see Christopher Lee as a " Golden Youth" or the need for an Oriental actor to play Elric , the discrption of Melnabonians seems pretty Elvish to me and the Elves in LotR worked just fine ( shame about the rest of the film ). But at the end of the day , who ever plays the part , who ever ends up on the soundtrack , how ever they they try to get over to an audience the Evil that is Stormbringer....i hope they don't trash it like LotR.

The Stormbringer movie must be like the books; a pure dark fantasy adventure. Not an hollywood family shit pack. I hope it will be as it should be! A pure massacre!

Why don't we dream big? Brad Pitt would be a great Elric. As for the dude who said Christopher Lee for Arioch, uh, no. Arioch is always portrayed as a youth with old eyes. Stuart Townshend (League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) would be great in the role.

I think Brad Pitt would be a bad idea for Elric and so would Jude Law, as for Stuart Townshend as Arioch I could see him as maybe a form taken on by but not permanent stay. Personally they should go with some unkown actors or as another suggestion said animation, but go with some people that specialize in animation voice overs instead of A-list actors for the popularity points from the masses.

As you know Mike Moorckock's vision of Elric is exactly Jude Law... and since he's responsible for Elric it might be a good choice.... speaking of Arioch it sould be someone of an extraordinary apparition, just as he's been described in the book.. and yes, it should be a pure masscre..and as dark as the book itself

I think Johnny Depp would make a stellar Elric

Let us hope that they do keep to the dark nature of the books. I would almost hope for a lesser known actor to play the lead. Brad pit would be bad, as would Orlando Bloom. I could see Jude Law,but what about Jhonnie Depp?? I hope the score is sinister and intense maybe kind of operatic. That song from the original Heavy Metal movie, Veteran of a thousand psychic wars would be a great theme song.

I would vote for Gary Oldman. He's one of the few actors who I think could be trusted with the role.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers who played steerpike in the BBC Gormenghast series. Perfect - sullen, pouty and probably very cheap compared to Brad Pitt.
