The residence of Orthur Tyr is typical of the homes of upper-class kandar in the city of Calbeyn. Since the city is build along the walls of a steep gorge, it's build into the side of a cliff, and consequently the one entrance is two floors higher than the other. Since space is at a premium here, there is no garden.
The lowest floor has the front door facing the river. Apart from the entrance hall and staircase, and the large indoor swimming pool, this floor is mostly given over to servant's accomodation. Those servants with rooms at the back must endure rooms with no windows. The staircase atrium extends the entire height of the building.
This is the 'private' floor, containing the bedrooms and dressing rooms for the family of the house. The inner room of each suite contains the bed; there are windows in the internal partition with the outer room and the balcony. The rightmost suite, numbered 5 is the guest suite. Note that the grand staircase does not give access to this floor, there is a separate staircase at the back of the house.
The 'public' part of the house, where guests are received and entertained.
The large undivided attic space is used for storage, and for sleeping accomodation for any slaves not important enough to qualify for windowless rooms on the ground floor.
