Where Worlds Collide

I called this blog Where Worlds Collide because it's about so many different things. All the time I've been on the net I've been on websites, forums, newgroups and mailing lists dedicated to a single topic, where chatter about anything else falls foul of the off-topic police. This is a place where I talk about all those things in one place.

Regular readers should already know what this blog is about, but for new readers, the principle subjects are:

Railways I'm a lifelong rail enthusiast and also a non-driver, so I use the rail system a lot to get about. Therefore I blog about trains and railways from both a transport and from an enthusiast viewpoint, which gives me two reasons to dislike Virgin Voyagers. At the moment there don't seem to be many other people blogging about trains. Patrick Crozier and Steven Karlson are the only others I've found so far. I have no idea why this is - I'm on a number of lively rail email groups, and the uk.railway newsgroup is so high-traffic I stopped reading it because I couldn't keep up.

Music I know my tastes in music are unfashionable; I like 70s-style progressive rock and old-school heavy metal. Most of the music-related postings here are reviews of CDs I've bought recently and gigs I've been to; most of these reviews I also post to Blogcritics.

Games I wonder how much sense my postings on roleplaying games make to the people who have come here for trains or music. Many of my game posts are part of the Game WISH (Weekly Idea Sharing Hegemony) orchestrated by Ginger at Turn of a Friendly Die. Each Friday participants answer the question put up on her site, as best they can. Other game posts are reports of gaming conventions I've been to, and news and updates from the on-line games I'm playing in.

News I've posted occasional thoughts on politics and religion when there's been something I've felt strongly about. I don't intend to let political punditry take over this blog; there are plenty of other political blogs out there already and the blogosphere doesn't really need yet another one.

Did you know you can read the categories as if they were separate blogs? This is one of the reasons I moved from Blogger to Moveable Type - You can go to Railways, Music or Games and read posts only on the subject you're interested in.

I'd quite like some feedback: which of these subjects do you care about? What would you like to see more of?

Please note that, although the comments form does ask for an email address, it's not displayed on the screen if you also give me a URL. Therefore your address should be safe from spam-harvesters.
